Milan, Italy A magical city for the creative mind, Milan is filled with fashion, art, history, and design. A perfect blend for those who thrive in cities that inspire you to create and keep your mind wandering. During my time in Milan, I preferred to travel like a local. The transportation system is easy to navigate, but walking was the best way to explore this unique city, as many of the best stores and cafes are tucked away in the narrow streets, only to be found by the wandering eye. On the contrary, I also visited some “touristy” destinations with my travel group. We visited the Sforza Castle, the famous Duomo, the luxurious Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, which is one of the oldest and grandest shopping malls in the world, and the Brera Museum, where some of Giorgio Armani's remarkable designs and works had been displayed. You can find amazing food in any region of Italy; one of the main dishes in Milan is saffron Risotto, and it's definitely a must-try, along with any cappuccino you may stumble upon.
Como, Italy Even in the rain, Lake Como felt like a scene from a movie. Cruising around the lake in an enclosed gondola heightened the experience for my group. We were able to view the incredible architecture embedded in the nature that borders the water. I could look at and photograph the estates, villages, and villas that surround this lake forever; each of them have intricitate details that set them apart from the next. The greenery around the lake feels like a fairyland, with hundreds of different plant and tree species that have been around longer than humans.
bergamo, Italy When in Bergamo, we visited Citta Alta, which is a quaint medieval mountain top village that is only accessible by funicular. A very old and historic village, filled with cobblestone streets and buildings, most notably the home of the Rocca di Bergamo Fortress.
Verona, Italy Verona may be one of the most colorful cities that I have visited; each building is a different shade from the next. Verona is in Northern Italy's Veneto region, with a medieval old town that was built along the Adige River. This city felt like taking a step back into the 14th century, into the setting of Shakespeare's famous play, Romeo and Juliet. Verona is also home to the 1st-century Roman amphitheatre, which is really the centre of attention as you walk towards the city center, that is filled with cafes, ice creap shops, stores and old trattorias.
